PLIA is a short term missions trip where students are sent out to 16 different locations over Spring Break. Each team is led by two students and is made up of students from a variety of grade levels, majors, and backgrounds. They partner with local ministries to serve communities across the United States in a variety of capacities. Examples of ministries students have been involved with through PLIA include working with refugee students, natural disaster relief, landscaping and rebuilding facilities, and supporting local missionaries and church staff.
An additional outcome of PLIA is that students gain a sense of involvement in and ownership for maintaining and improving the Christ-centered community at Dordt. One way this is achieved is through the team relationships built over PLIA, which often carry over after the trip ends as students resume life at Dordt. Teams form deep, long lasting relationships as they Spiritually connect through group devotions and sharing personal testimonies.
Many logistical items must come together in order for PLIA trips to be successful, so we would ask for prayer as we continue to plan and prepare. In addition to prayer, PLIA also requires considerable financial support as we seek to serve 16 locations this spring. The fiscal support comes mainly through fundraising, both from local churches, businesses, and individuals.
